One small team of 10 researchers at the University of Bedfordshire specialising in English Language Assessment has topped Oxford and Cambridge for research on English in the latest Research Excellence Framework, the UK Government’s programme for evaluating academic research, which was published on May 12.
The REF, as it is known, is divided into different subject areas, or Units of Assessment, and each piece of research submitted for review is scored. Seventy-two per cent of the work submitted by Bedfordshire’s Centre of Research in English Language Learning and Assessment, or CRELLA, was ranked as world-beating by the experts evaluating submissions to the REF and it was placed third in the country for English and English Language Research.
“I am delighted that the impact of our research has been acknowledged with our submission achieving 100% world-leading, 4-star impact,” says Professor Anthony Green, Director of CRELLA. “The results reflect very well on our expertise and our strength as a global centre of excellence for research in this area.”
