An award that recognises projects or ideas intended to bring people together through learning English has been established in the name of Simon Greenall, OBE.
Simon had a long career teaching English as a foreign language. He wrote and co-wrote a number of textbooks on teaching English as a foreign language, spoke at conferences around the world, was president of the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language for two years and was made an OBE in 2013 for services to English language teaching. He passed away in 2018.
The award set up in his name is supported by Macmillan Education, International House World Organisation and International House London.
Your language project could get the boost it needs through the award, which will be looking for ideas that bring people together through learning English. It may be something that’s already launched or you may still be wondering how to get your idea off the ground, it might be something that’s online or in person. Examples include an educational podcast series, a creative writing project with output that could be used in classes, an online drama or extensive reading course – or something completely other. The aim of the award is to support an existing project to become established and sustainable or to launch a new project and enable it to be a success.
The winner will receive mentoring, publicity and funding where appropriate, as well as making the outcome available to the wider ELT community.
