Sign language

An unemployed English teacher in Mexico City took to the streets of his home town with a sign offering lessons for just 15 pesos (approx .55p), with the first class free, He’d lost his previous job teaching English at a private school due to the Covid pandemic and was hoping to pick up a few students. However, a passer-by asked if he could take Samuel Olvera’s picture and the next thing that happened is that the photo went viral on the internet and he was inundated, with over 2,300 people getting in touch,

He’s now teaching 200 learners online and some of them are voluntarily paying more than the meagre 15 pesos per class,

As reported in Mexico News Daily, he said: “It was never my intention to go viral. I only took to the streets with my sign…so that people would see that I was a teacher without a job… [then] a young man said to me ‘Can I take a picture of you?’ … And now look at me.”
