Omar keeps up

Further to our reporting last week that a number of famous faces admit to learning English from watching TV siitcom Friends, now French actor and comedian Omar Sy – who plays Assane Diop on the Netflix hit Lupin – has admitted on US TV talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he perfected his English watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Although he was famous in France and had appeared in a number of French films and TV shows, when he got to Hollywood he had to start again and this time in English.

While he had a private tutor, he still struggled to get the hang of the language. As he told Jimmy Kimmel, he started off watching CNN, but says they talked too fast. He tried another channel and found the Kardashians. “It was easier to understand,” he says, and soon picked up words and phrases the family use, such as “seriously” and “oh, my God”.

It seems he really was keeping up with the Kardashians.
