Concord College International Limited, together with award-winning property developer Sunsuria Berhad, have teamed up to create a new British academic centre in Sunsuria City, Malaysia.
It will be modelled on UK-based Concord College, sharing its ethos of rigour, kindness and creativity, and will be overseen by Neil Hawkins, Global Principal of Concord International. The school will cater for students aged from 5 to 18, who will study under the UK’s National Curriculum from primary school through to A-levels. It will admit both day and boarding students, with a capacity for 1,250 pupils in total. The 10-acre site for the school is opposite Xiamen University Malaysia’s Sunsuria City campus, and will eventually include 10 buildings housing student accommodation, a library, arts, drama, music and sciences rooms, further classrooms, an auditorium and main hall, along with a swimming pool, tennis courts, and track and field facilities. It’s envisioned that the school will be completed in time for the start of the 2024 academic year.
“I feel uniquely privileged to be supporting the project,” says Hawkins. “After 16 years as principal of Concord College, my new role as Global Principal of Concord College International will allow me to draw on my long experience of bringing about change and improvement at Concord and applying this experience to our new school in Sunsuria City. It is certainly an exciting and inspiring prospect.”
