Struggling to remember a second language – or teach one? Hypnosis could be the way forward, according to the director of Ermes Solutions in Pau, France.
Patrick Louart, who trained as a hypnotist, saw its potential in teaching languages, as reported in The Connexion, a French news website.
“It works because, in the hypnotic state, the unconscious mind is not distracted by outside stimuli, anxiety or fear of making a mistake, but is hyper-concentrated on the lesson,” Louart says. “As well as remembering vocabulary and sentence structure more easily, it also helps with pronunciation, as the facial muscles which have to work in different ways to produce new sounds remember the new shapes more easily if learned in this way.”
Ermes Solutions currently offers hypnosis for teaching English, Spanish and Italian, combined with more traditional methods delivered by a teacher in three-hour sessions.
Three, two, one… You’re back.
