Google is on the case to jump into the language-learning scene. It was already an early adopter with Google Translate, which was launched 13 years ago, but now it’s poised to go further by introducing active language learning.
The concept’s working name is Tivoli and it’s expected to come our way some time this year, though no official launch date has been announced. In its first incarnation it will be text based, but it’s expected to move on to voice recognition applications. One way it may do this is through, say, a language quiz that users can video themselves answering and then be assessed by online AI.
As Google already has a massive user base, it could prove a real competitor against the heavy hitters already in the AI-powered scene, such as Duolingo, Berlitz and Rosetta Stone.
