IELTS Speaking Examiner

Pay band: Hourly rate

Location: Yaounde Douala- Cameroon 

About IELTS Speaking Examiner

To carry out assessments for the IELTS Speaking module while maintaining the standards required by the IELTS Professional Support Network (PSN) and the British Council. The IELTS Speaking Examiner will be responsible for the delivery of IELTS oral interviews and will work closely with the examiner support teams.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

  • Conducting IELTS Speaking tests.
  • Marking IELTS Speaking tests.
  • Ensuring certification is up to date and attending Examiner training, standardisation and certification sessions as required
  • Conducting other IELTS and British Council exams as required, depending on certification.
  • Adhering to the IELTS Professional Support Network and British Council policies.
  • Participating in Examiner meetings and other relevant meetings as required.
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and to ensure that policy is taken into account when planning and delivering activities.
  • Managing information created and received in compliance with the British Council’s information management standards, policies, the UK data protection principles and local legislation.
  • Participating in required British Council training and applying relevant principles in carrying out duties, including Child Protection and Health and Safety.
  • Examiners need to be organised, prepared, and professional, and dress in line with local expectations of an examiner.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in IELTS


Essential Requirements and Experience: 

  • An undergraduate or Master’s degree or a qualification which can be demonstrated to be equivalent to an undergraduate or Master’s degree*.
  • A recognised qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages(TESOL) or recognised equivalent as part of a recognised university award course.
  • At least 3 years’ full time (or the equivalent part time) relevant TESOL teaching experience (minimum one-year post-certificate level qualification). The majority of this teaching experience must relate to adult students (16 years and over)**.
  • The required professional attributes and interpersonal skills for the role.

Note*: All qualifications must be validated by a reputable institution and accredited by a professional certification board. If requested, applicants are required to provide additional information regarding their qualifications (e.g. transcript, course curriculum, evidence of external validation, accreditation by a certification standards board, etc.).

Note**: “Full-time teaching” is classified as a minimum of 14 hours of in-person teaching per week. Freelance and volunteer teaching are not included.

About the role:

The Global Procurement function is split into clusters and this role will report to a Senior Procurement Manager. The successful individual will support the implementation of a sourcing plan and delivering procurement projects as required within the cluster.  This role will require effective stakeholder engagement within the cluster or globally whilst supporting the delivery of improvements and efficiency in procurement projects.

Main Responsibilities

Consultancy, analysis & problem-solving

  • Builds an in-depth understanding of the specific operational context, opportunities and challenges facing their internal customer(s) to ensure the provision of procedural advice and support based on informed business insight.
  • Pro-actively seeks internal customer and other stakeholder feedback to monitor satisfaction with the standard of functional advice and business support provided, enabling improvements to be made where issues are identified.
  • Applies core technical/professional knowledge, recognised best practice approaches and insight from previous experience to resolve non-standard issues which arise in the provision of functional support to a specific organisational unit or area of corporate activity.

Service improvement

  • Within their area of technical/professional expertise, identifies opportunities for procedural improvements within established policies and determines the most appropriate mechanisms and processes for implementing those changes.

Minimum/essential requirements

  • Experience of managing procurement projects
  • Experience in leading and managing effective negotiations

  • Understands and has used a variety of pricing models and tools.

  • Undergraduate degree / diploma holder or has relevant experience in procurement
  • Fully / partially qualified member or currently undertaking a qualification of a professions body, e.g. CIPS or other relevant body or equivalent experience

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to ensure exams operations and supporting resource meet customer experience requirements and ensure exams integrity on the ground.  
This role is ultimately responsible for efficient, effective, and compliant pre and post Test Day, in addition to test day delivery.  managing cost, risk and contingency on the ground and setting standards, developing, and managing the performance of their team.

Main Accountabilities:

Service Delivery

•    Implements a range of standardised, operational procedures and systems within a given work plan to achieve specified, clearly measurable targets (revenue, volume, time and/or cost, venues admin work) 
•    Receives instructions and requests from cluster leadership and plans and organises given resources accordingly (often at short notice) to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and effectively
•    Adapts work plans where necessary to meet customer expectations.      
•    Drives continuous improvement at country level in the efficiency/cost effectiveness/quality of service delivery
•    Uses a range of standardised systems and processes to plan and coordinate effective, timely and cost-effective logistical support to enable the delivery of high-quality services to a range of customers (internal and/or external)

Leadership and management

•    Motivates and encourages team performance.                                             
•    Plans and prioritises country’s operational activities, and supports team development towards effective delivery of services
•    Manages day to day performance of country operations team, dealing with sickness, discipline, motivation etc., to ensure high quality service delivery is maintained at all times

Customers/ Relationship and stakeholders

•    Takes end-to-end accountability for researching and obtaining satisfactory and timely resolution of complex/escalated customer (internal or external) operational complaints and issues, coordinating input from other colleagues/departments/managers as required, to do so.                                                                                                                                  
•    Ensures the customer is kept informed throughout the process.                
•    Develops good working relationships with appropriate colleagues throughout the BC to facilitate effective and efficient service delivery.
•    As required, supports senior colleagues in hosting/attending external events or meetings, ensuring these run efficiently and effectively and that a positive, professional image of the BC is projected.
•    Takes lead on specific stakeholder relations and vendor negotiations as directed/delegated.

Risk and compliance

•    Adheres to Quality and Compliance Assurance (QCA) standards, exams boards standards & guidelines, and IELTS audit requirements at all times. 
•    Uses standardised processes to monitor team/unit compliance with agreed corporate risk management procedures relevant to service delivery (e.g., child protection, security policies, financial protocols, anti-fraud measures) to protect the interests of the BC and its customers.                                                                                                              
•    Highlights to senior managers any instances of non-compliance.
•    Ensures team receive and maintain appropriate induction/training in all relevant risk management procedures. 
•    Uses standard corporate protocols to assess a range of risks in service/product delivery.                                                             
•    Makes appropriate contingency plans to manage delivery safely and effectively in challenging or high-risk circumstances.

Commercial and resource management

•    Directly plans and controls specific cost variables (rather than the total budget) to meet established targets, ensuring compliance with all relevant corporate financial systems and processes
•    Actively seeks to maximise value for money when acquiring resources, goods, or services for the country operations.

•    Analysis and reporting

•    Uses agreed financial procedures/templates, conducts monthly and year-end analysis and reporting on income and expenditure/ profitability and risk/pipeline/actual performance versus plan targets

This role will involve travel and on occasions working out of office hours due to events and meeting external stakeholders needs
