Green for go

Good news for overseas students hoping to study in England this autumn – and for the schools here offering ESL – is the country’s latest round of updated green and amber list countries.

As of 4 August there are currently 36 countries on England’s green list. This means that arrivals from countries on this list will only need to take two Covid tests, one before travelling and one on arrival in England, and there is no need to quarantine. The green list will be updated every three weeks.

From 8 August, there will be over 150 countries on England’s amber list. To enter from one of these countries, travellers will need a negative Covid test taken within three days before travel and a further two – on or before days two and eight after arrival – plus they will need to quarantine for 10 days. The quarantine requirement is waived if they are fully vaccinated by a UK vaccine programme overseas or in the UK, or received their vaccines in a number of European countries or the USA.

A comprehensive list of green, amber and red list countries, and the rules around arrival, can be found here.
