A new online learning platform for refugees and migrants has launched in Ireland to provide free courses in a number of crucial areas, including English. It’s called SaorEd, saor being Gaelic for ‘free’. Lessons are mostly in English, but some of the site navigation is in Farsi and Arabic.
As of writing, English courses on SaorEd include an introduction to English, intermediate English for university, English for Arab speakers and advanced English for the workplace. Certificates are awarded to those who complete an online course.
While Ireland already offers free English language classes run by Education and Training Boards, places are limited, so it’s envisaged that SaorEd will fill the gaps.
To use the site, students need to prove they’re a refugee or asylum seeker. Full details are available at saored.com
