A cluster of some 46 English language students has been confirmed positive for Covid-19 in the California university town of Santa Barbara. The affected students and their close contacts, all of whom were enrolled in the local EF language school, were reported to be in quarantine in a university residence hired by EF for the summer.
The EF campus, which had 515 students enrolled, was not required to close when the first 25 infections were confirmed on 22 July. Language centre staff have been working with the Santa Barbara Public Health Department to mitigate the risks to other students, half of whom are reported to be fully vaccinated.
“The infected individuals have been in isolation,” an EF spokesperson told the local press, “and close contacts have been quarantining per public health guidelines.”
