Spanish banking giant, Santander, is offering 5,000 language scholarships for online English, absolutely free of charge. The courses, which are run in partnership with the British Council, aim to increase employability among young people, are part of the bank’s initiative to increase employability.
The online courses, which will cover English language skills for meetings, presentations and interviews as well as grammar and vocabulary, are available to anyone aged over 18 living in six Latin American countries, four EU member states, including Spain and Portugal and both the UK and the USA. Santander promised that the successful scholars will require “neither a bank account nor a university degree”.
Applicants will need to take a language test and will then be placed at one of five levels. The course which takes place over a 16 week period and include 12 group class tutored by a British Council-employed teacher.
As Carolina Jiménez, Head of Higher Education at the British Council Spain, explains: “The courses are flexible in terms of timetables, with synchronous online classes where it is possible to interact with students from different parts of the world.”
