A social language-learning app

We’ve all heard of dating apps. Likewise, we’re all aware of social media. We also know that online language learning has taken a leap during the pandemic. So how about an app that – sort of – brings them all together? (Though not necessarily the dating one – this one’s more about friendship…)

HeyPal, from ClickStream Technology, is a new app that brings people who are learning a further language together.

Say you want to learn French. Say someone in France would like to learn English. If you both swipe right on each other’s profile in the app, you can help them by conversing with them in English and they can help you by conversing in French. It’s very like the social media apps you’re probably already familiar with, as you can ‘like’ posts and comment on them. Not sure what your pal is writing? Turn on the in-app instant translation feature. Can someone actually learn another language with the app? An interesting question…

It’s free for the basic plan, but more functions are released if you take up the Starter plan (£8.99pm) and there’s also a Premium plan.
