The Irish Council for International Students (ICOS) have launched their General Election Manifesto 2024.
The manifesto outlines actions for the next government, with aims of improving the rights, welfare and experience of international students in Ireland.
There are six key policy areas under the spotlight in the manifesto:
- Housing
- Immigration
- Higher Education and English Language sectors
- Racism
- Employment
ICOS are calling on the next government to urgently pass legislation to clamp down on predators who seek sex in lieu of rent, provide funding to build affordable PBSA, and increase normal working hours for non-EEA students from 20 to 30 hours a week.
Brian Hearne, Policy and Communications Manager at ICOS said:
‘International students play a critical role in Ireland’s academic, social, and economic landscape; yet, they continue to face significant challenges, many of which go unnoticed. This manifesto sets out clear policy proposals that will go towards enhancing international students’ experience in Ireland, and Ireland’s reputation as an international study destination.’
