Pearson have announced their PTE Core has been approved for use by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as proof of English language proficiency.
Similar to PTE Academic, PTE Core focuses on more vocational, and non-academic subjects which meet IRCC’s requirements for language proficiency. IRCC have recently announced plans to welcome approximately 1.45 million total new permanent residents over the next three years – this arrives at a time when demand is high in Canada for nurses, engineers, and web developers.
PTE Core is fully digital through Pearson VUE. Test-takers will be able to book the test up to 24 hours in advance, year-round, and can expect results on average within 1.3 days. It will be rolled out across more than 400 PTE centres in 118 countries.
“At Pearson, we see every day how English skills can transform lives,” says Pearson CEO, Andy Bird. “I’m delighted PTE Core is now accepted in Canada for economic visas and proud of the innovation and rigor that sits behind the quick and high-quality experience our test provides to test takers.”
PTE Core will allow applicants seeking permanent residency in Canada to provide proof of English proficiency towards the end of 2023.
