As previously reported here (‘Exams on hold in Vietnam’, 11 November 2022), Vietnam suspended the British Council, and other foreign administers of IELTS, from providing the exams on 10 November, citing a need to investigate organisations to ensure they were following local laws in their practices.
IELTS are very important to students and their parents in the Southeast Asian country, as a score of at least 4.0 can smooth the way to admission to desirable high schools, can in some cases mean fees are waived and students can even be given the highest mark in their graduation exams automatically if they have reached this level of English. All local English teachers are also required to take the IELTS exam.
So, it is with considerable relief that local educators, their students and families received the news that the British Council, in conjunction with Dong A Education Tech Ltd, ODIN Education JSC and University Access Centre Vietnam Ltd, has now been approved to resume administering the test.
