Until recently, Colombians who wanted to come to the UK to study for up to six months had to apply for a visa that could take up to 60 days to come through and cost US$173. However, on 18 October, the UK’s ambassador to Colombia, George Hodgson, announced that a visa to stay for for reasons of tourism, business or study for up to six months would be lifted. The new status quo took effect on 9 November and those who have applications in the system can withdraw them and apply for a refund.
This is good news for English language schools, as it clearly makes the UK a more attractive destination for international students coming from the South American country.
