The US Embassy in Ghana provides free resources for English language teachers on its website. These cover reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as webinars that can be accessed at any time. Now, however, the Embassy has broadened its scope by offering a seminar to English language teachers in the country’s northern region.
The seminar, which took place on Wednesday 20 April, focused on teaching methods – particularly encouraging student interaction – and the sharing of ideas and the obstacles teachers face. It was such a success that participants have asked for a follow-up seminar to further their language-teaching skills. The principal of the Tamale College of Education, Dr Sulemana Iddrisu, said how the seminar was particularly helpful in that it supported the requirements of Ghana’s new national curriculum.
