In the latest venture that aims to marry fun with language acquisition, Influent, from Three Flip Studios, is a game-like programme in which the user follows Andrew Cross, who has invented a device that can name objects in different languages. However, the tech for his device has been stolen and now he must prove it’s his to get it back. To do this, the user must master 420 words in one of 20 languages. The download (currently only available to iOS users) comes with French, Italian and Korean, but further languages, including English, are available.
The idea behind it is that learners using Influent will acquire new words by the same sort of exposure to language that will have taught them their mother tongue, associating nouns, verbs and adjectives by interacting with the hundred of things they will find in Andrew’s apartment, which is presented as a 3D scene. There are also games within the storyline to play.
Influent will be available from 20 October.
