Testing for Language Teachers

3rd Edition

Arthur Hughes and Jake Hughes

Cambridge University Press

ISBN: 9781108714822

The main aim of the updated Third Edition of this book remains unchanged: to help teachers write better tests. Its 19 chapters firstly explain the desired qualities of tests: validity, reliability, practicality and positive backwash. Useful sections then focus on writing tests specifically for the four language skills as well as grammar and vocabulary. One chapter looks at statistical analysis. The new chapter on new technology is quite short and touches on computer-adaptive tests and AI (Artificial Intelligence). Users will appreciate the many suggestions for further reading. A straightforward, accessible and largely practical book which successfully combines theory and practice.
